Creative Writing

I often think about the nutrition of children or lack thereof. I think of this because I see the kids that my son goes to school with, and then he tells me what his friends have for lunch. You see my son doesn't even know what most junk food is or the names of candy bars. He is five years old and has eaten a whole food diet since his first solid food. He has tried some things like cake to celebrate a birthday or ice cream and his body rejects it. He doesn't like how it makes him feel, at five years old! Anyway, it saddens me that parents are not more aware of what they are feeding their kids. All of the quick prepackaged foods that you can just easily throw into a lunchbox are not the most nutritious. It honestly angers me when I see obese children or diabetic children. There is absolutely no reason for this, none at all. Everyone is full of so many excuses when the reality is that people are lazy. Too lazy to make a healthy sandwich, cut up some fruit or veggies, and make your kid a decent lunch. It then gets to a point where kids tastebuds are so used to eating certain bad foods then we run into the problem of "I don't want to try that", I don't want to eat food that is green", or "It smells funny". I want to know why grown adults can't feed their kids better, or care to make a change when they are told by a doctor that they need to. I think that parents also need to be the example. They need to eat well also, and lead by example. I've run into families that make great healthy meals for their children and something else for themselves. How do they not expect that their children would be curious about what they are eating?!
